Shrove Tuesday 2018

Welcome to Room 3 & 4's blog for 2018. During the year we will be posting photos and samples of our work, to show you all the amazing things that are happening in Room 3 & 4. This will be a combined blog, but accessed through Room 4's link.
On Tuesday it was Shrove Tuesday (also known as Pancake Day), the day before Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. In Room 3 & 4 we learnt about the significance of Shrove Tuesday and why it's such an important day. Below are some photos of us making and eating pancakes.
On Ash Wednesday we went to Mass and got a cross of ash put on our foreheads, to help us remember what Lent is all about.

Cultural Celebration Day!!!!

Today was a very special day in Room 3!!! We celebrated all the different cultures we have in Room 3 and at Good Shepherd School. All the children were invited to come to school dressed in clothes that represented their culture or cultures. We discussed this beforehand and came up with some ideas for lots of different cultures, including our own New Zealand culture. Children were encouraged to also bring in something to share with the class. In Room 3 we had food, songs, national anthems and toys from different cultures. Each child stood up and talked about what they were wearing and why it was important to them. It was a fabulous day and it was great to see so many children proud of their culture and heritage. Below are some photos from today:

Writing

Last week in Room 3 we wrote about Good Friends. We explained how to be a good friend. Here are fantastic pieces of writing from Rosa and Jiwoo.

Good Friends
If you are lonely and want a friend, you have to use manners. For example, if I walk up to a random person I would not say, "Be my friend now!" That's the exact path to them saying No! So this is the best way to make a friend. You walk up to them and say, "Hello, what is your name? My name is Rosa can I play with you?" That's how I made friends with Maggie. Now Maggie is my best friend because we both treat each other nicely by sharing, making sure we are not lonely and helping each other with our work. You also need to get to know them, that's how you make a friend.

Good Friends
If you want to be a good friend you need to first make a friend. How to make a friend is, use your manners. But don't say "be my friend." You can introduce yourself. When you have a friend they can look after you! They can help you when you're stuck at work, when you're hurt or when you have bad skin and when you're sick at home they will worry about you. When you have lots of friends like I do, you can invite them for a playdate or some birthday parties. I know when you start school it's hard to make friends but after two weeks you will have one hundred friends. When you're having a party or a playdate you can share your toys and play fun games. I think friends are very useful to you. So that you don't need to be alone everyday. In Good Shepherd School or other schools you might have some buddies to keep you safe. I love friends. You can have a friend who's a boy or a girl, you don't need to have an actual girlfriend or boyfriend. I love friends so much.

Every Thursday all of Sheridan Syndicate have a session with Fabian from Auckland Sport. He is delivering a programme from Kiwi Sport called Get, Set, Go. It is especially designed for 5 - 7 year olds and works on ball skills (throwing, catching, passing), team games and co-ordination. The sessions will run for 8 weeks of Term 3. Here are some photos from one of our sessions.
