Last
week we celebrated Samoan Language Week in Room 3. In our classroom we have
Matila, Annika, Rosa and Xavier T, who are our experts and leaders in
everything Samoan!!!
We
were lucky enough to have Xavier and Annika’s mum come into Room 3 and teach us
all about Samoan culture, food and language. We even got to taste some yummy
treats, including banana chips and coconut bread!!!!
Seleta,
Xavier’s mum, taught us the sign of the cross in Samoan and a food blessing
that they use in their family. She also showed us a kava bowl and a tapa cloth,
from Samoa.
Sign of the Cross: (Practise this at home)
I le Suafa o le Tama
Ma le Alo
Ma le Agaga Pa'ia
Amene
Food Blessing:
Fa'afetai Iesu
Foai mai meai
Tausi ai matou le fanau
Amene
In
class, we practiced counting to ten in Samoan and we learnt some greetings as
well. We also learnt a sasa dance!!!!
Here is Seleta talking to the class:
